Lee Clark wants revenge for Fulham’s League Cup exit at the hands of Wigan Athletic when the two sides meet at the JJB Stadium tonight – and has angrily denied that the club hasn’t taken the competition seriously in recent seasons.
The club captain told Fulham’s official website this afternoon:
“I don’t think that accusation stands up, to be honest. The team we fielded up at Wigan last season had about nine full internationals in it, and should easily have been good enough to have got a result. I don’t think we devalued the competition at all, we just didn’t perform on the night and that’s why we got beaten.
It’s going to be a very difficult game, we know that. We were very poor up there last season and deservedly got knocked out, so we’ll be going up there to avenge that. I don’t know what the manager’s plans are yet, but we’ll be looking to go up there and get a victory. They’re flying high in the First Division though, so we know it won’t be easy. We didn’t like losing up at Wigan last season – we’ll be looking to turn that around and get a victory that will give us a good run in the competition this year.”
