Fulham striker Steve Marlet has confirmed he will be leaving the club, despite previously admitting he would have liked to stay.

Marlet made his admission as he spoke to reporters after playing for France in their 2-0 win over Switzerland in Geneva – Marlet scored the second goal.

He explained: “Fulham no longer want me. I respect their decision even if I have not finished what I started. It is down to the club to find a solution and Marseille correspond to what I am looking for. It was my mum’s dream to see me play for Marseille. It is a club about to qualify for the Champions League and which is contesting the French title. It should be sorted by Monday at the latest.”

Marseille will take Marlet on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.
