Middlesbrough will not be reviving their interest in Fulham midfielder Sean Davis after Everton withdrew from the race for his signature.

The 23-year-old’s proposed £5million switch to Goodison Park collapsed after a scan on his injured knee revealed a cruciate problem which would prevent him from passing a medical before the closure of the transfer window.

Boro too had seen their offer accepted by Fulham but after Davis, who submitted a transfer request earlier earlier this summer, indicated that he favoured Everton, they signed Spanish star Gaizka Mendieta.

Fulham manager Chris Coleman explained: “”The deal is off and Sean’s back here with us and he will be working hard to recover from his knee injury. The bottom line is that he’s a Fulham player still. It’s now down to Sean to start showing some form if and when he’s selected, and if he does that we’ll welcome his contribution.”
