Jerome Bonnissel was delighted with his Fulham debut after the Whites won a high-scoring thriller against Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season.

The French full back, who signed on a free transfer after a successful trial this summer, is a popular addition to Chris Coleman’s squad as Fulham look to try and solve what has been a problem position in the past. Bonnissel told the club’s official website:

“The speed of the game did surprise me. Some of the players said that it was slower than usual because it was the first match of the season, but I thought the rhythm of the game was very fast – faster than I was expecting. Middlesbrough made it very difficult for us – because they were the away team they played it very tight and waited for us to make mistakes. It was good to score three goals, but to concede two was very disappointing, so we need to work very hard on that area of our game and improve on one or two details.”

I am very, very happy to be at Fulham. I very much like the spirit at the club. And I like London very much as well. I was very keen to come here so I am very pleased that it was able to happen. It was a good afternoon and I enjoyed it. But more importantly it was a victory for the team – a good win against a good side.

The objective of the club now is to do better than last season, so we need to raise the level of our play and we know that we can do that. It was a good start for us and that was important, but it was just one match, and now we have three games away and it’s vital that we get some points out of those games. The more games we can win early on, the more our confidence will increase and that will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.”
