Fulham defender Abdeslam Ouaddoh is to join Rennes on a season-long loan, subject to the successful completion of a medical.

The Moroccan international, who signed for Fulham from Nancy for £2m in 2001, has become unsettled at the London club after being played both at right back and in central defence. Ouaddoh was keen to return to France and play first team football as a central defender.

Fulham manager Chris Coleman said: “Abdes has made it clear that he’s not a right back and that he wants to play where he feels comfortable, which is at centre half. But there’s a lot of competition for places at centre half now so we’ve let him go out on loan to Rennes who are a good club.

He’ll still have a year left on his contract when he comes back and a season away playing regularly will only make him a better player when he returns.”
