French defender Alain Goma is seeing positive signs in Fulham’s pre-season preparations.

The former Newcastle centre half told the club’s official website this morning:

“We’ve been working quite well. The training has been challenging and we have had a couple of friendlies while we have been away which were interesting exercises. We’ve done a lot of physical work this pre-season but, all-in-all it has been well balanced and the team is getting fitter.”

He felt encouraged by Fulham’s showing against Italian giants Roma in Austria last week. The Whites pushed their illustrious opponents all the way before losing to a last-minute goal.

“It was an exciting game because they’ve got a very good squad with some top players. It was good to test ourselves against a team like Roma.”

Goma says that the spirit within the squad is the strongest he has known in his two and a half seasons with the club.

“We’ve been doing a lot of good tactical work which is a positive point but I think the best thing is that we know each other better this year. It’s a good thing for the atmosphere in the squad. There’s more solidarity between the players which is going to be very important next season.”
