Edwin van der Sar has tipped Louis van Gaal to take over from Jean Tigana as Fulham’s new manager.

The former Ajax, Barcelona and Holland boss was interviewed by Fulham’s directors on Tuesday after making his interest in succeeding the Frenchman known to the club.

van der Sar, who played for the legendary Dutch manager at Ajax and in the Dutch national set-up, believes his appointment would be a real coup for the Whites.

“I think they will want an experienced manager. I have had a lot of phone calls from Holland about van Gaal. It would not only be fantastic for me but for the whole club. If he comes, it is a positive thing for the development in every area.

I haven’t spoken to him for half a year and also none of the directors have asked me about him. We had a lot of success together with Ajax, although with Holland it was a little bit less. It was a combination of bad luck and players not being on form.”
