Fulham assistant manager Christian Damiano took an optimistic view after the Whites were held to a goalless draw by Finnish part-timers FC Haka in their first InterToto Cup fixture yesterday.
The Whites dominated the Craven Cottage fixture but will have to win the away leg after an inspired display of goalkeeping from Haka’s Mihail Salwuta.
Speaking after the final whistle, Damiano said: “To draw 0-0 is not a bad result, and it was important not to concede a goal. We had many chances, but their goalkeeper made some good saves and we hit the bar. We were ready to play well after two weeks training, but they were a team with good organisation, although they created no chances.”
