Fulham are set to sign Parma full back Antonio Benarrivo on a free transfer after he lowered his wage demands, according to reports in Italy.
The 33 year-old has told Gazzetta Dello Sport that he is ready to become Franco Baresi’s first signing since the former Italian defender was appointed Fulham’s new director of football.
“I have accepted an inferior contract to expectations. But the economic factor is a definite second to my enthusiasm for this new experience.”
Benarrivo has spent a decade with Parma, whom he helped win the UEFA Cup, and the versatile Italian international is looking forward to beginning pre-season training under Jean Tigana according to his agent Federico Pastorello, who angrily denied rumours that his client had failed a medical.
