Fulham’s Alan Neilson has agreed to join Grimsby Town on a season-long loan deal on Friday strengthening Lennie Lawrence’s on-loan army.
The former Southampton defender is on a month-to-month contract with The Cottagers, meaning that the move could eventually become permanent if he impresses during his loan spell.
With regular right back John McDermott sidelined for a lengthy spell, Lawrence has moved quickly to secure cover, allowing Danny Butterfield to move back into his favoured role on the right side of midfield.
Neilson becomes Grimsby’s third defender to join on-loan this season after The Mariners also brought in a number of players such as Knut Anders Fostervold, David Nielsen, Menno Willems and Stuart Campbell on temporary terms last year.
The 29-year-old defender will go straight into the side which will play Watford this Saturday.
