Fulham head coach Jean Tigana said Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely should have been sent off for his wild challenge on Louis Saha in the 1-1 draw at The Valley.
Kiely caught Saha in the chest with his raised leg as the pair contested a bouncing ball in the penalty area but escaped any punishment from referee Jeff Winter. A furious Tigana was restrained by the fourth official during the first half and had not calmed down by the time of the post-match press conference.
The Frenchman said:
“It was not only a penalty but a red card also. I went to protest to the fourth official but he told me to sit down.”
His striker Saha was similarly non-plussed:
“I was disappointed with the referee because I thought it was a penalty. I was a little bit surprised about the decision because when he didn’t touch the ball and touched the player it’s definitely a foul.”
