Barry Hayles says scoring for Fulham in the Premiership was ‘a dream come true’.
The former Bristol Rovers striker broke the deadlock in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Craven Cottage – clinching the club’s first top-flight victory for 33 years – and it was extra special for Hayles, who feared his days might have been numbered after Jean Tigana brought Louis Saha to the club.
Hayles told the Evening Standard:
“We need a bigger squad here and if someone new comes in and I am still scoring goals, the gaffer will keep playing me. There is a bit of pressure on me. I keep picking up the newspapers and seeing there is a new £10m striker being linked with the club. But if you are doing well you will play and I think I have played well enough to keep my place at the moment. It is just great to be mixing it with the big boys.”
