West Ham United have slapped an unofficial £15million price tag on striker Frederic Kanoute after two footballing giants – one domestic and one European – entered the race for his signature.

It was believed that Aston Villa and Fulham were the only sides in the bidding for the 23-year-old Frenchman’s services.

But they have now been joined by Liverpool and Italians Juventus, who have registered late interest in the striker.

West Ham are now resigned to losing Kanoute – although they insist he will not be allowed to leave Upton Park on the cheap.

Villa and Fulham have asked to be kept abreast of developments.
