Lee Clark has admitted that his disappointment at Newcastle means he isn’t getting carried away by Fulham’s superb start to the season.
Clark was part of Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle side that squandered a twelve-point lead to lose the Premier League title in 1996. The midfielder told the Daily Mirror after Fulham’s 2-1 win over Grimsby Town at Craven Cottage on Saturday:
“I was in the Sunderland and Newcastle sides who both had record seasons to get promotion from Division One. But on the other side of the coin I was in the Newcastle side who let slip a twelve point lead and that was very hard to take. I know from experience not to get carried away. There is still a lot of work which needs to be done.”
