John Collins was delighted to mark his Fulham debut with a win as Jean Tigana got off to the perfect start in English football with a 2-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Craven Cottage yesterday,
Collins, reunited with the former French international midfielder after a spell playing for Tigana at Monaco, delivered a man-of-the-match display in the engine room having completed a £2m move from Everton earlier this summer. The Scottish international made sure of the points by sending young French forward Louis Saha through on goal with a superb through ball fifteen minutes from the end to score his first goal after joining the Whites from Metz.
Collins told the Sunday Mirror after the final whistle:
“You can sense the huge belief and expectation here. The fans believe we can win promotion and so do the players. This is just one win and there’s a very, very long way to go but it’s a nice way to start the season. I reckon the expectation will increase as the season goes on. The bookies have made us one of the favourites to get into the Premiership. Some people would call that pressure but I wouldn’t. I have no regrets about leaving Everton to come to Fulham. Hopefully, I can be back in the Premiership next season.”
