Former Arsenal trainee Ian Selley was the first big signing of the Ray Wilkins era – arriving at Craven Cottage for £500,000 in October 1997 with some fanfare. The midfielder looked to add some class and technical ability to Fulham’s midfield in his three appearances before breaking his leg in a 1-1 draw with Northampton. This was his second serious leg break and despite making a comeback after a long period of rehabilitation he failed to return to the first team and moved to Wimbledon on a free transfer in July 2000.
