Fulham manager Kevin Keegan is eyeing a summer swoop for former England captain Paul Ince, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The Whites will face competition from Tottenham for the Liverpool midfielder, who looks likely to leave Anfield as he enters the final year of his contract on Merseyside. Gerard Houllier is planning a clear-out after another disappointing season for the Reds and Ince, who will turn 32 shortly, is not likely to feature in his plans.

The former West Ham enforcer would welcome a return to the capital and Keegan is hoping to use his influence to persuade Ince to snub a potential Spurs switch and move to Craven Cottage instead. Liverpool are set to ask for around a £1m and Keegan, backed by Mohamed Al-Fayed’s millions, believes Ince could be one of a number of ex-England internationals who could add experience as he seeks to accelerate Fulham’s rise through the footballing pyramid.

The same Sunday Mirror story also suggests that Keegan is looking to land Arsenal full backs Nigel Winterburn and Lee Dixon with the 35 year-olds likely to be replaced by younger signings as Arsene Wenger looks to the future. Keegan feels Fulham’s unlimited spending power, as they are backed by the Harrods tycoon, would allow the Second Division leaders to offer attractive deals to senior stars looking for lucrative contracts.
