A commanding and composed centre back, Mark Blake was a shrewd signing on a free transfer by Ian Branfoot in September 1994 following Fulham’s relegation to Division Three. He recovered from making his debut in a 5-1 hammering at Walsall to be voted player of the year in his first season at Craven Cottage and became a fixture at the heart of the Fulham defence. He was a remarkably cool penalty taker and was a pivotal figure in promotion from the Third Division under Micky Adams in 1997, when he was also successfully studying for a degree in business. Blake played 163 games for the Whites before joining Cannes on a free transfer and now works in IT.
