Glasweigan goal-getter Mike Conroy arrived at Craven Cottage from Preston North End for £75,000 in the summer of 1995. A proven poacher at Reading, Burnley and then Deepdale, Conroy struggled in his first season with Fulham, managing just nine league goals in 40 games, but his fortunes were transformed by a summer working with Micky Adams. The Scot, booed by his own fans just months earlier, scored 23 goals in 46 appearances, as the Whites won promotion from the Third Division in 1996/97 but was a casualty of the instillation of Kevin Keegan as chief operating officer the following. He moved to Blackpool before finishing his playing career in Australia, where he still lives today.
