Scottish full-back Steve McAnespie was one of Ray Wilkins’ first signings after succeeding Micky Adams in the Craven Cottage hotseat. The right back arrived from Bolton Wanderers for £100,000 in 1997 and made his debut in a 1-1 draw against local rivals Brentford in December 1997 but struggled for game time at Craven Cottage, making just eleven first team appearances in two and a half years, before being released on a free transfer in the summer of 2000.
