Mohamed Al-Fayed is set to pay an emotional tribute to the Princess of Wales and his son, Dodi, before Fulham’s rearranged Second Division game against Plymouth Argyle this evening.
The Cottagers’ chairman has organised a lone piper to play a special lament at Craven Cottage followed by a minute’s silence for the victims of the Paris car crash.
It will be Al Fayed’s first public appearance since Diana’s Westminster Abbey funeral on Saturday.
The Harrods owner, who has been keeping a vigil at his son’s graveside, has pledged that all proceeds from the match will go the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.
Fulham’s communications manager Ian Gibb told The Daily Mirror:
“Arrangements are going on in anticipation of the chairman’s appearance. It should be a very moving affair. All the players will gather in the centre circle at 7.40pm for the piper’s lament, followed by a minute’s silence. We are bracing ourselves for a big crowd of between 15,000 to 18,000 people and it will be one of the biggest – and saddest – occasions seen at this club.”
