Midfielder Mark Cooper arrived from Birmingham City in November 1992 as a relatively big-money signing but flattered to deceive at Craven Cottage. He made just nineteen appearances in less than two years with the Whites, angering the usually placid Fulham fans with a perceived lack of commitment. To make matters worse, Cooper, the son of former England full back Terry, celebrated his winning goal for Exeter that pushed Ray Lewington’s side closer to the relegation trap door as he had won the World Cup. He has subsequently admitted he let Fulham down.
