Talented full back Mark Newson became a valuable utility player almost as soon as he arrived at Craven Cottage at the start of 1990, making sixteen appearances as the Whites survived relegation from Division Three on the last day of the season. He went on to make more than a hundred appearances as captain of the Cottagers battling through several serious injuries before joining Barnet in the summer of 1993.
