Born in Johannesburg, Gavin Nebbeling had made more than 150 Football League appearances for Crystal Palace before signing for Fulham in the summer of 1989. The centre back made a century of first-team appearances for the Whites, keeping a clean sheet on his debut at Bolton Wanderers, before being released at the end of the 1992/93 campaign after spending time on loan at Hereford United.
