Midfielder Gary Smith came through the Fulham youth team set-up having been scouted following his release from Arsenal as a schoolboy. He made a single first-team appearance for the Whites, as a substitute on the final day of the 1985/86 season when Ray Harford’s side were beaten by Charlton Athletic. Since retiring prematurely through injury aged 27, Smith has forged a successful managerial career mostly in the United States, where he won the MLS Cup with the Colorado Rapids in 2010. He is currently in charge of Nashville.
