Committed midfielder Peter Scott emerged from Fulham’s set-up having starred for Berkshire Schools and made his senior debut in a 2-1 League Cup win at Newcastle United in October 1981. He became a first-team regular at the start of the 1985-86 season, when he scored twice on the opening day as the Whites beat Leeds United. He was a whole-heated performer through the club’s darkest days – when Fulham’s existence was threatened by the proposed Fulham Park Rangers merger – and arguably produced his best campaign as the Whites reached the Division Three play-offs in 1989 only to be sent off for a reckless challenge in the home leg of the semi-final against Bristol Rovers.
Scott’s longevity in the Fulham side – he made 321 appearances in eleven years – was recognised in a joint testimonial with John Marshall – and he deserved better than being unjustly released by Don Mackay at the end of the 1991/92 season, when he had been the club’s leading appearance maker.
