Centre back Geoff Banton spent four years at Craven Cottage having began his career in the Bolton Wanderers youth system and spent two seasons with Plymouth Argyle. He made fifty first-team appearances for Fulham, helping the Whites win promotion from the Third Division in 1981/82, but moved on at the end of that season with his first-team prospects limited by the emergence of a genuinely outstanding central defensive partnership between Roger Brown and Tony Gale.
