Richard Money moved to Fulham from Scunthorpe United for £50,000 in November 1977, making his debut in a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Craven Cottage. He replaced John Lacy at centre back before being moved to right back after Ray Evans joined Stoke City. Money was called up to the England under-21 and England B squad whilst with the Whites and captained the club during the relegation season of 1979/80. His performances remained consistent and he was sold for £333,000 to Bob Paisley’s Liverpool, where he went on to win the European Cup, in April 1980. That was Fulham’s club record sale – which wasn’t bettered until Tony Thorpe moved to Bristol City for £1m in 1998. At the close of his playing career, Money became a successful manager in Scandinavia before winning promotion with Walsall and Cambridge United back home.
