A unique Fulham character, Les Strong came through the club’s youth ranks as a right-sided winger but became a reliable left back who made more than 400 appearances for the Whites. He played every game in Fulham’s run to the 1975 FA Cup final but missed the final through injury and later captained Malcolm Macdonald’s side to promotion from Division Three in 1981-82. He was unfortunate enough to also score the own goal that decided the Anglo-Scottish Cup in Middlesbrough’s favour in 1975 but was a popular member of the Fulham squad, who was awarded a testimonial before leaving for Crystal Palace on a free transfer, and is now a regular fixture in the club’s hospitality suites.
