World Cup winner George Cohen was a one-club man, joining Fulham as a schoolboy and retiring when he left the club in the summer of 1969. He was a terrific tackler and had superb strength and speed, which helped bail team-mates out for club and country. He made his Fulham debut aged 17 and was a key part of the side that took Fulham back into the top flight in 1959. He played in both the 1958 and 1962 FA Cup semi-finals, missing just eighteen games between 1957 and 1966.

He played every minute from the 1966 World Cup, excelling in the quarter-final against Argentina and the final against West Germany. Cohen won 37 England caps but his career was never the same after a dreadful knee injury sustained against Liverpool at Craven Cottage in December 1967. He retired from playing two years later, became Fulham’s youth team for two years, and was a popular hospitality host at the Cottage for decades. He sadly died aged 83 in December 2022.
