The son of Italian parents, Joe Bacuzzi, made 299 first-team appearances appearances for Fulham between 1937 and 1955, winning thirteen caps for England. He was a regular at right back from 1937 onwards having signed for the Whites after an unsuccessful trial at Arsenal. Attack minded and an excellent crosser, Bacuzzi had played seventy senior games before the outbreak of war. He made more than a hundred wartime appearances for Fulham – also starring in several notable wins over Scotland – before scoring the club’s first Division One goal against Wolves in 1949. He only retired aged 40, succumbing to a serious knee injury, and became Fulham’s reserve team trainer in 1956 – serving the club for a further nine years. Bacuzzi also scouted Bedford Jezzard whilst playing for Fulham. He died in 1995.
