French champions Lille have made an offer to take Chelsea’s Gael Kakuta on a season-long loan.
Fulham had been hoping to take Kakuta on loan for the rest of the 2011/12 campaign after the French forward spent five months at Craven Cottage last term. Kakuta is expected to farmed out once again this season as he is unlikely to break into Chelsea’s first team and Lille are confident that they can put together an intriguing offer for the 20 year-old.
With Gervinho and Yohan Cabaye both having left the Stade Lille-Metropole for the Premier League this summer, Kakuta could be guaranteed a regular spot in the Lille starting line-up, something he rarely achieved under Mark Hughes at Fulham. The fact that Lille could offer Champions’ League football to aid the French youth international’s development might make this offer too good to turn down.
Kakuta made seven appearances for Fulham on loan last term, starting just two Premier League matches, and scoring once – in Fulham’s 3-0 win at Sunderland.
