Andreas Pereira looks set to leave Fulham in the summer after rejecting the Premier League club’s offer of a new contract.
The Brazilian international, who spoke publicly of his interest in joining Marseille earlier this season, turned down the chance to join Palmeiras in January after lengthy negotiations between the São Paulo side and Fulham. The 29 year-old attacking midfielder, who has made 114 appearances for the Whites since moving to Craven Cottage from Manchester United for £10m in July 2022, has formally rejected the Premier League club’s offer of a contract extension – and UOL suggest that he will not be short of offers from suitors this season.
The Brazilian outlet claim that Atletico Madrid and Zenit St. Petersburg are keen on the playmaker’s services, whilst several Saudi Pro League clubs – including Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr – are mulling over whether to make an offer. With just over fourteen months remaining on his current deal, it remains to be seen what sort of fee Fulham would be looking for to part with Pereira, who has been a crucial part of their success under Marco Silva since they returned to the top flight, but a summer departure now seems inevitable.
You never know what’s true and what’s media clickbait, but it feels the right time for Andreas to move on. On his day he’s amazing, but he seems to say some strange things in interviews and has a lot of “off days’ mixed in. I would love to see a more consistent number 10…if we continue to play Marco’s single striker, the number 10 has to be able to bomb the box and chip in with 7-10 goals a season. Whether it’s how Marco is playing him, or something else, goals and assists have largely deserted him, and his set piece delivery (which in his first season was awesome) is now poo. A good servant for the club, we will miss him, but I think we need a decent upgrade to push us on. I wonder if that’s (God willing) ESR next season!?
Let him go and get a younger player who can score goals and more assists.
If he played well often enough then i would be gutted but he does’t imho – i fancy EZE
He can leave if he wants !!.He is replaceable!!.He lad is simply too inconsistent and he really thinks he is better at a bigger club !!
sign Zippas’ granny as a replacement
I’ve never understood the dislike of Andreas.
Yes, he’s said some stupid, arrogant things and he has an ego on him the size of a jumbo jet, but he’s always energetic and defends from the front, unlike you’d get from a lot of 10s. Plus, he fits in well with the rest of the squad.
I’ll be sorry to see him go, but it’s not exactly unexpected. I just hope that the scouts have their sights on a decent replacement and that wheels are in motion to sign them.
My concern is that we’ll end up with a more traditional 10 who’ll score a few but who sees pressing/defensive work as being below them. Careful what you wish for.
At 29, I wouldn’t blame him for heading off to Saudi and securing the bag.
He won’t go down as an all time Fulham great or even a cult hero, but he’s played his part and has generally given 100%.
Cheers AP and good luck.
I totally concur, @Franco.
The rumoured attempt to sign Cherki last year would have been fantastic, but if we do not secure Europe next season, that becomes impossible. And he’s more temperamental than AP.
I think Kenneth Taylor from Ajax is exactly the type of player Fulham need in midfield as an ‘8’.
Totally agree with Kiwi and Franco, Pereira has served the club well, on his day he is a joy to watch, unfortunately these days are seldom and far between.
Can’t agree with this. Pereira’s returns have diminished markedly over the last eighteen months. He gave two interviews hawking himself to other clubs ahead of the transfer window and then denied that it happened before the Brazilian outlet posted the video on social media with a translation.
The reason I’m upset about it is that Andreas at his best is an excellent number ten and both Fulham and Silva gave him an opportunity to shine in the Premier League. He’ll be gone in the summer because he can’t be relied upon to give his best every week – which should be the minimum we ask of anyone who pulls on the Fulham shirt.
I agree with parts of everything that has been said. Personally I thought Andreas looked a very good player when he was playing with Mitro. Since he left, Andreas has largely failed to shine. This is not through lack of effort on his part. I can’t remember him giving less than 100%. Hopefully with him departing we can attract a top quality playmaker who knows how to unlock a massed defence as that’s been our biggest problem this season
