Marco Silva promised Fulham will ‘go for it’ in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final after suffering a narrow defeat at Liverpool this evening.
The Cottagers’ head coach told Sky Sports that it was ‘a tough result to take’ after his side took the lead through Willian’s predatory first-half strike only for second half strikes from Curtis Jones and substitute Cody Gakpo handed Liverpool a slender advantage.
“We knew it was going to be a tough one. You can’t play for a final thinking it’s not going to be really hard. Even three days ago they were able to play Arsenal away from home in the FA Cup. We did really well in the first half, more of a low block than we usually play but we controlled it well. They are a threat with the pace and quality of their attacking players and they can punish you at any time. We were ruthless in the first half but second half they pushed up a bit more.
We’re playing at home, we’re losing 2-1 but we’re going to go for it for sure. In the second half we had good moments and we should’ve scored another goal at least but it is what it is at the top level of football. “At home, with our fans behind us, it’s going to be a great night for Fulham Football Club.”
Bad timing for Palhinha to come out on the eve of such an important match and say that he is definitely going to leave. We love it when he makes great tackles but he, too often, allows himself to be beaten. First half-Mac Allister robbing him in the centre of the park. Second half- allowing Jota to drift past him for Jones’ goal. His age, his fee and his lack of creativity will make it a lot more difficult than he thinks to leave.
We can thank Bernd Leno that there is only a single goal between the two teams.
Decordova Reid should be shot for his decision to shoot instead of passing -not to Pereira, who would probably have stuffed it up anyway, but to Jiminez, hanging back, totally unmarked and screaming for the pass. Never, ever going to be good enough.
Pereira-another clown. Going down as if Mike Tyson had pole-axed him. What an embarrassment!
It’s all very well for Silva to say we “will go for it” at the Cottage -and I bloody hope we do BUT, by choosing Harrison Reed over Tom Cairney in such a crucial fixture, he made his statement of containment rather than “going for it” in this game.
Agree with Charles re BDR and Pereirra. Someone needs to have a word because we’re better than that nonsense.
The most important thing was to stay in the game. Anfield is mental tough place to get a result.
We’re in it and we have a chance. We can take a bit more risk at home.
COYW!
Should have played Cairney instead of Pereira and Wilson was an embarrassment, hopefully we are not out of it yet but we will have to take the chances when they come.
Don’t know why Cairney didn’t take free kick at the end instead of Wilson. Should have pulled rank; he was captain after all.
Thought Castagne had a good game.
Sadly. When the transfer window comes around Fulham still want champagne but only want to pay for lemonade.
