Fulham full back Devan Tanton has been called up to the Colombia squad for the first time for their forthcoming international fixtures against Mexico and Venezuela.
Tanton, a highly-rated former United States youth international, was rewarded for his outstanding form in Fulham’s under-21 side with a senior debut in the Whites’ League Cup fourth round win at Ipswich Town last month. The defender, who switched his international allegiance to the country of his mother’s birth, impressed national team coach Nestor Lorenzo with his mature displays during the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina and has now been handed an opportunity to shine on the full international stage.
The attack minded right-back, whose journey to Fulham began when he was scouted by the club whilst playing for the USA under-17s at St. George’s Park, got his first taste of senior football on loan at Walton and Hersham last season. The nineteen year-old will look to make an impression in training ahead of the two friendlies matches with Lorenzo looking for alternatives at right back with a number of senior internationals out injured.
Colombia face Venezuela at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sunday 10 December before taking on Mexico at the United Airlines Field at the Coliseum in Los Angeles on Sunday 17 December.
