Fulham have announced that their highly-rated centre back Connor McAvoy has signed a new two-year contract with the club this afternoon.

The Scottish under-21 international, who captained both of Fulham’s youth sides having joined the Whites aged eight, impressed Marco Silva during the pre-season tour of Portugal in 2022 and got his first taste of first-team action with the club when he started a 2-0 win over Nice on the Algarve. The cultured central defender had enjoyed a successful loan spell with Wealdstone, although his second stint in senior football ended early when he sustained a knee injury just six weeks into his loan with Scottish Championship side St. Mirren.

McAvoy told Fulham’s official website:

“I’m very happy to have the chance to stay at Fulham, I know the club very well and feel like I belong here. I’ve enjoyed the last eleven years and I don’t see myself anywhere else. It was a very easy decision to re-sign here. I enjoy coming in and working hard every day and I get on well with everyone. It’s where I’ve always wanted to play from a young age. The recovery is going okay so far. It’s obviously been a tough six months but I’m definitely making progress. Hopefully I won’t be out for too much longer and once I’m back I want to return to full fitness as soon as I can.”

Fulham’s head of football development, Huw Jennings, added:

“We are delighted to confirm Connor’s new contract. Prior to his unfortunate injury last season, Connor was enjoying a fine spell of form, first for our Under-21s and subsequently at Partick Thistle on loan. Hopefully Connor can recover soon from his current setback to build on his growing reputation.”
