Tosin Adarabioyo will remain with Fulham after his proposed move to AS Monaco fell through this evening.
The 25 year-old ball-playing centre back had made clear his preference to join the Ligue 1 side over Tottenham Hotspur having refused to sign a new contract at Craven Cottage. But Monaco and Fulham were some way apart in their valuation of the former Manchester City defender and he is expected to remain with the Whites for the rest of the season.
The tall defender has made just a single first-team appearance this season – the briefest of cameos in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates.
While I admire us sticking to our guns on valuations for a change instead of letting players go on the cheap, this is a mistake. It’s not like the Mitro situation where we were dealing with someone who in the end could just keep throwing money at the problem until it was resolved. Or the Pahlinha situation where the player involved has the levels of professionalism and passion to carry on playing for us at a high level if forced to stay. Tosin doesn’t want to stay at all, and doesn’t seem like the kind of character to keep trying. He’ll coast to January now, and try to leave again then.
Meanwhile we appear to have made little to no effort to get another centre back in, so we’re effectively going to try to see our way to the new year with three first team central defenders. Better hope there aren’t many injuries or suspensions…
Tosin Reed and Palhinha seeking to leave and now possibly disgruntled. Happy squad? Augurs well for the next four months
