Despite Diomansy Kamara’s public proclaimations that he won’t be leaving Fulham, his agent Willy McKay obviously still hasn’t given up on the prospect of making a nice little earner out of a summer transfer.
McKay first came to prominence as Papa Bouba Diop’s agent when he succeeded in persuading a player who seemed happy at Craven Cottage to move to Portsmouth. The Scot obviously fancies trying to earn a better contract for his player and take a nice slice of the wage increase or shift his man onto one of his mates at another club.
The quotes seem to indicate that he’s still touting Kamara around. Personally, I’d value Kamara at far higher than the meagre £3m McKay is quoting.
Diomansy has instructed me to find him a club in the UK. There has been interest from the likes of Roma, Bordeaux, St Etienne and Malaga, but Diomansy has turned them down as he wants to stay in the UK.
I believe the price Fulham want for Diomansy is £3million and I think that is a bargain price for someone of Diomansy’s calibre and for someone who can play anywhere on both sides out wide and also down the middle.
McKay might want to rethink his PR, too – as useful as Kamara is up front and on the left, I wouldn’t like him on the right flank in my team.
I’ve also got my doubts about whether Kamara really has asked his agent to find him a new club, considering what the Senegal forward said last week:
I want to be in the team, the manager wants me 100 per cent, nothing else. I owe a big season to Fulham.
I hope Kamara stays as he does add something to the squad that we simply do not have. A player who can be unpredictable and a good finisher. After AJs miss Saturday, probably our BEST finisher.
Actually, Kamara did really well in Africa Cup of Nations last year as a right winger. I’d love it if we keep him, though I’m probably the only one who thinks our squad is very close to getting over-sized soon. Especially if Greening and Dikcagoi joins. Definately over-sized with players who aren’t exactly young. I’d rather have Brown and Smalling on our bench than Dikcagoi and Greening. Duff is quality though.
As good as I think Brown could be, I’d rather hace Greening on our bench any day. Premiership experience, can play anywhere across the midfield. Dikagcoi looked pretty useful in the Confederations Cup, and plays in a different position to Smalling anyway.
I do agree though that our squad does look rather over-sized (especially in midfield), but equally I’m concerned that in goal and defence, we don’t have much cover. Stoor’s off, Kelly hasn’t made a promising start, Kallio is ok at LB but as we saw against Blackburn shouldn’t play centrally, and neither Smalling nor Watts can really be expected to be thrown into the deep end. That leaves Baird who many people don’t rate at all (nor, to be fair, did I until Boxing Day at White Hart Lane – he was phenomenal). If Hughes and/or Hangeland were injured, I wouldn’t feel too confident about our chances.
The same goes for Schwarzer too. He was magnificent last season, but at his age, he may well get a knock along the way. Stockdale has potential, as do Etheridge and Foderingham, but Zuberbuhler is as prone to errors as Tony Warner.
