Fulham have confirmed this evening that their assistant director of football Javier Pereira has left the club to become head coach of Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye.
Pereira, who was previously assistant to Slavisa Jokanovic at Craven Cottage between 2015 and 2018, rejoined the London club as assistant to head of football operations and vice chairman Tony Khan in January. The 54 year-old was eager to get back into football management and accepted Henan Jianye’s offer two weeks ago.
Fulham’s statement this evening quotes Pereira, 54, as saying:
“I would like to thank Mr Khan and Tony Khan for the incredible support they have given to me. The most important thing to me is to be leaving the club at a time when its objective of being promoted to the Premier League was achieved. I will be keeping a keen interest in Fulham and I will be cheering for the team this season. I wish the Club every success and hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.”
Reading between the lines you can imagine he has had a difference of opinion with spreadsheet guru Tony Khan just like Slav did! I know it’s speculation on my part but I think I might have a point. He probably had some players lined up that didn’t meet the wrestling gurus statistical criteria. Unfortunately I feel Marlon is a Tony Khan purchase-I mean do you think Scott would have heard of him?
Welcomed effusively by Tony Khan 9 months ago
Now departed with no explanation as to why
Undoubtedly, it must have to do with a difference of opinion and it is only logical to assume that the difference of opinion is related to transfers
We have been linked to so many players and, understandably, a lot of the talk is just media hype but, in relation to signing a player that can solve our central defensive issues, we have seen enough supporting evidence to suggest that Fulham have been genuinely linked to, at least, three central defenders of note. Why none of these transfers were completed while, at the same time, our first team conceded 7 goals in our opening 2 fixtures is, to my mind, symptomatic of the way Tony Khan conducts his business. Incidentally, all three of these players, judging by the footage available online, are decent tacklers and ball playing centre backs but none of them, including Marlon, look particularly impressive in the air. Only time will tell if Khan has made a good signing or another duff signing to add to the list of Knockaert, Cavaleiro and Decordova Reid
Or maybe he just got offered a job (and, being the Chinese League, probably also an amount of money) he couldn’t turn down…
Scott Parker should be in charge of transfers. End of!
But he’s,clearly not! This ludicrous American amateur is! This club is like something out of Monty Python!!!
