New Fulham signing Antonee Robinson revealed that Scott Parker’s influence made signing for the club ‘an easy decision’.
The left back, who completed a £1.9m move from Wigan Athletic this afternoon, said that the Fulham manager had made a real impression during a Zoom call over the weekend and his confidence in his newly-promoted side convinced Robinson to pick the Cottagers over a number of fellow Premier League clubs.
The American international told FulhamFCTV:
I’m made up. It’s been a few days in the making now, but I’ve just been really excited to get down here and get everything signed. When the lads come back, I just can’t wait to get going. I heard a few days ago that Scott Parker was interested in me and he wanted to speak to me himself. He’s away at the minute so we had a Zoom meeting and he was really keen to get the deal done and get me in.
They play a really nice style of football and that’s something I can really see myself fitting into it. He said he wanted to get lads in who are really hungry and want to learn and want to work hard for the club. This year is a massive year. The goal’s going to be to stay in the league, but he really impressed me saying he wants to put his stamp on the league. If we get the right players in, then we’re going to do it. He seemed really sure of himself – things like fine details. I believe him in him. As soon he told me his ambitions for the club, it was a really easy decision for me.
The 23 year-old feels that Fulham already have top flight quality in their squad and believes he will be a good fit with the club’s adventurous style of play.
There’s quality in the squad. It’s always been a struggle playing against them. They play a really nice style of football – attacking, a lot of possession-based [play] and I feel like I’ll fit right in. I’m a pretty attacking full back so I want to drive the team forward, get loads of crosses in and loads of assists and goals hopefully this year. I feel pretty strong defensively, it’s going to be a test stepping up to the Premier League against better players of course, but I feel like it’s something I’m up to and it will only be a matter of time before I’m doing well.
The former Everton defender also admitted that Craven Cottage was his favourite ground to play at and that he is greatly looking forward to pulling on the white shirt there for the first time.
In terms of league games, it is my favourite stadium I’ve played at. I’ve said that for a while now. I’m really looking forward to play, obviously when the fans come back it will be even more special for me, but just to step out there and be representing Fulham will be massive for me. It’s a massive club. I think over the year it is an established Premier League club, whether they’ve dipped in and out of the league or not, we should be staying in the Premier League and competing.
Sounds a good signing, let’s now sign Callum Wilson, not sure we need Ryan Fraser.Hope to see more of Johannson next season in my mind a really good player
