Fulham are among a string of Premier League clubs keen on taking Rhian Brewster on loan from Liverpool, according to reports this morning.
The 20 year-old striker enjoyed an outstanding end to the Championship campaign whilst on loan at Swansea, scoring 11 goals in 22 as Steve Cooper’s side reached the play-offs. Brewster has now joined up with Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Austria and, while he has spoken of his desire to prove himself to Jurgen Klopp and compete for first-team football at Anfield, the club reportedly view a Premier League loan as the next step in the England youth international’s development.
Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Brighton have all registered an interest in taking Brewster on loan, while Fulham are also monitoring the forward’s availability following their promotion to the Premier League. Aleksandar Mitrovic shouldered the goalscoring burden for Scott Parker’s side in the Championship, scoring 26 goals in an outstanding campaign, but Brewster could bolster their striking resources with only Aboubakar Kamara, regularly used as a winger this season, Bobby Decordova-Reid and teenage sensation Jay Stansfield as recognised strikers in Fulham’s squad currently.
Brewster, born in Dagenham, won the golden boot when he fired England’s Under 17s to World Cup glory in 2017. He came through Chelsea’s academy before making the switch to Liverpool in 2015 and made his senior debut for the Reds in a League Cup tie against MK Dons in September 2019.
I really don’t want us to sign other teams youngsters on loan, help them develop & then see them go back to the parent club. If we bring Brewster in, it pushes our own young prospects further down the packing order &, though I’m not saying Stansfield is ready for the Premiership this year, (he might be best going on loan to a Championship club and playing regularly), surely it’s better to develop our own than one of Liverpool’s or Chelsea’s lads now we are competing in the same league as them??
I’m not saying I’m against all loan deals (for example, if a good central defender was available that would come in and immediately improve us at the back but wasn’t playing where he was, that’d make sense for both parties) but I think I’d only be ok with loan deals for youth players if the agreement included an up-front agreed option to buy price that we could exercise at the end of the season.
Agree with Shaun.
FFC has an outstanding youth academy and don’t want us using that resource to develope other clubs players at the detriment to our young players.
With you on this Shaun , and it seems what Tony Khan implies in his interview recently , so I take this with pinch of salt. But good player love to have him for keeps
Snap him up.
