Just a line at the bottom of the People’s piece on Fulham’s supposed interest in DJ Campbell, but mention of a young American defender had me intrigued.
I hadn’t heard of Mobi Fehr before but the defender has been plying his trade with Tokyo Verdi in Japan for a number of years. It might seem like a strange place for an American kid trying to make his way in the game but Verdi, despite being financially challenged and well below the J-League, have one of the best youth teams in Japan and Fehr’s potential has seen him become a regular and captain of the US U-17 side. He helped them win the CONCACAF U17 championships in February and had been linked with a move to an MLS franchise. He has an international pedigree too: being half Swiss and half Japanese, which would explain his time in the Far East.
Given the successful stint that Carlos Bocanegra had at the Cottage, a move for an up-and-coming American central defender might well be a good idea. The article suggests that Fulham would immediately loan him out to a club in Scandinavia to continue his development so this would indicate that such a deal – if it happens – would be focused on the future.
