Fulham in fight for Goddard
Fulham are battling Burnley in the race to sign the highly-rated teenage goalkeeper Felix Goddard, who has just been released by Manchester City.
The Football Insider reports that both clubs are eager to conclude a deal for the 16 year-old stopper as they look to boost their goalkeeping options in their youth sides. Goddard, who was born in Germany, has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Hamburg. The youngster has been with Manchester City for three and a half years, but left the club after his schoolboy terms expired this summer.
Fulham have reportedly been longstanding admirers of Goddard, who was recruited by Manchester City from the Singaporean JSSL academy. The Whites have a strong track record of developing goalkeepers through their academy with Marcus Bettinelli and Marek Rodak the latest first-team stars to emerge from Motspur Park, whilst former Fulham custodian Jesse Joronen has just completed an outstanding campaign with Brescia, where he was widely acknowledged as one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A. At youh level, the club can already call on the likes of Luca Ashby-Hammond and George Wickens, who have represented their country in age-group football.
