Fulham preparing second offer for Ayew

Fulham are preparing a second offer for Jordan Ayew after having their first bid rejected by Swansea, according to a Daily Mail report this evening.

Swansea turned down Fulham’s initial approach, reported to be around £8m, and the Mail suggests that the Welsh side will entertain offers in the region of £13m for the Ghana international. The 26 year-old forward is widely expected to leave the Liberty Stadium after relegation but Swansea are determined to hold out for the best possible offer for Ayew, who topped the club’s goalscoring charts with eleven goals last season.

Fulham are on the hunt for reinforcements across all areas of their squad as they prepare for their first Premier League season in four years and, with uncertainty over whether the Whites will be able to reach a deal with Newcastle for the permanent transfer of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, Slavisa Jokanovic will want further options in the final third. Ayew’s versatility – which means he could fill any one of the front three positions in Jokanovic’s fluid 4-3-3 system – might well be a major plus point.

Swansea reject Fulham’s Ayew bid

Swansea have turned down Fulham’s £8m bid for their forward and are believed to be holding out for closer to £16m.

News of Fulham’s offer emerged last night but Swansea, who are keen to avoid the impression of a Liberty Stadium fire sale by holding out for the best offers for their key performers, quickly rejected the bid. The Welsh side believe they can attract offers worth double what the Whites were willing to pay for the Ghana international, who led Swansea’s scoring charts with eleven goals last season.

Ayew certainly won’t be short of suitors over the summer having been heavily linked with a move to Celtic or Liverpool after finishing the season strongly. New Swansea head coach Graham Potter, recruited from Ostersunds earlier this month, will have the final say about all transfer decisions. Fulham are keen to add to their attacking options – but it remains to be seen whether the Whites will be willing to up their offer for Ayew or move on to other targets.

Fulham make £8m bid for Ayew

Fulham have tabled an £8m bid for Swansea City forward Jordan Ayew, according to a Sky Sports report this evening.

The Whites are holding talks with the recently relegated Welsh club over a potential move to Craven Cottage for the Ghana international. The 26 year-old was Swansea’s top scorer with eleven goals last season and would suit Slavisa Jokanovic’s desire to have Premier League experience among his forward options as Fulham prepare for their return to the English top flight.

Ayew, who can also operate on either wing, made his breakthrough as a teenager at Marseille, scoring the equaliser on his debut against Lorient in 2009. He helped the club win the Ligue 1 title in 2010 as well as three successive French cups, scoring 22 goals in 147 appearances. Ayew then spent a season at Lorient before joining Aston Villa, for a rumoured £8m fee in July 2015. He scored 10 goals in 58 appearances before moving to the Liberty Stadium in Janaury 2017.

Ayew has scored twelve goals in 46 appearances for his country and was part of the Black Stars’ 2014 World Cup squad before helping Ghana finish as runners-up in the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea the following year. He has been linked with a host of clubs since Swansea’s relegation and Fulham have sought to steal a march on the strong forward’s other potential suitors.
