Fulham failed with a deadline day bid for Botafogo midfielder Danilo, according to reports from Brazil.

The Whites did not manage to bring in a central midfielder during the summer transfer window – despite the position being one that Marco Silva wanted to fill even before the departure of Brazilian international Andreas Pereira. According to Ge, Botafogo reportedly rejected a £26m offer from Fulham as they did not have the time to source a replacement – having already sold midfielders Gregore and Danilo Barbosa this summer.

Danilo’s almost instant return to the Premier League – a month after leaving Nottingham Forest – seemingly never got out of the starting blocks. The former Palmeiras midfielder made 62 appearances for Forest, scoring ten goals in two and a half years at the City Ground, but Fulham’s attempt to add him to their engine room was a little too last-ditch.
