Emile Smith Rowe was surprised by how quickly he was able to make his mark against Manchester United yesterday – scoring 133 seconds after coming on as a substitute.

Fulham’s record signing told Sky Sports after the final whistle that he was delighted to get on the end of Alex Iwobi’s cross to cancel out a controversial Lenny Yoro header – and believes that the intensity of Marco Silva’s training sessions mean the manager’s substitutes are always ready to be game changers.

“It was really quick, to be honest. I know when Alex gets the ball, I know his trademark cross. I knew where he was going to put it and I just had to make sure I was there for the right time. It starts from training. We’re very competitive in training and I think it all comes there. We all want to score goals, we all want to contribute to the team. We know when we come off the bench we have to work hard and try and score.”
