Marco Silva aired his frustration at Fulham’s slow summer recruitment after watching the Whites beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 in the final pre-season friendly at Craven Cottage this afternoon.
The Fulham head coach told the press following the final whistle:
“Some positions are really short and we have to add players, yes or yes until the end of the market because it’s not what we expect in this moment of the season to don’t have at least one, two or three players we needed for the beginning of the season. We expected much more activity from ourselves in terms of recruitment, players in. Unfortunately, they are not here. The worst thing we can have now is more injuries. Jedi had the small surgery, it will take a little bit more time for him to be ready.”
Silva also hopes that Ryan Sessegnon will be ready to feature in Fulham’s first game of the season at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday after he limped off during the first half.
He felt something. Let’s see in the next few hours or few days how he reacts. We’ll do some exams on him. Let’s hope that he can be ready for the beginning of the season.”
Need two wingers,a striker and a mid !! Maybe be a left back too now !! But sadly,it is not going to happen until last week !! Yes,one hr before deadline day !! Tony Khan favorite day of the year !!.
Honestly, this is beyond disgraceful. Especially, considering how well the squad did last season. We already know without Silva we would’ve already been relegated. The club simply always leaves signings too late and often the deals we do are just fine but leaving them that late means any new signings are basically two months behind learning the system and how their teammates operate. I really wish the transfer policy would change. When we lose Silva we are in big trouble. Its no longer an if but a when.
Surely the owners were aware of the positions required as early as the end of the season. Why again have things been left so late, it must pay to get business done early so Marco has time with the new faces and they have the preseason to gel with the team. I do feel for Marco, we were led to believe he would be backed ensuring his commitment to FFC, he has but the Khans haven’t!
Cracking article
Silva will be off next summer and you cannot blame him. He has his own ambitions that are not being matched by the Khans.
Sick of the management now. Year after year the same rubbish. Macintosh needs to go now.
Sick of all the Negativity good squad of players albeit we need a third striker. Stop moaning.
This is becoming a joke I have been a fan of this club for 50 years this is the best manager we have ever had had put ink on the checkbook and give Silva what he needs to make this club great again no money spent championship next year
We do not need too much but squad needs to be bigger. Silva is obviously getting frustrated and with a few injuries we will become strong relegation candidates. Great manager but unless we beat last season position and qualify for Europe it will be his last season here
Agree with all the comments except Chris. We have a decent squad that did not see the season out because the squad was too thin and old. The sqaud is now smaller and a year older. All our rivals are beefing up their teams, we are just stagnating. No way will Marco be here this time next year
They surely can’t expect him to stay if they don’t give him the squad to work with and improve. If you don’t move forward you stagnate.
I get the complaints about no signings but the market is a shit show. Our rivals have lost most of their best players and any replacements are unproven. Theres no sense rushing in and overpaying for players because that could really bite us in the arse. Do think Nelson should’ve been done a long time ago though…
We already needed a left back. Sess isn’t a left back and everyone needs to stop pretending he is. Especially the club.
Nowhere does Marco say he’s frustrated with the club or with the recruitment team.
He’s frustrated because we just can’t get the players we want. Either clubs won’t sell those players because they don’t want them to leave, or because they want to start a bidding war, or the players don’t want to come (at least, not yet).
Marco knows this. He’s not an idiot.
I can’t remember the exact quote but we were told we didn’t make long term moves in January because we were plotting a big summer. It’s such a shame that flat out just wasn’t true.
ESR never got going last season and it’s a pattern; no pre season means a player takes a year to get up to speed. Every season we run out of steam in the last quarter. The squad isn’t big enough. Two or three new first teamers would have added competition and seen us move up a level (maybe get into Europe or have a cup run.)
The Khan’s believe for sure they get a better deal leaving it late. It feels like picking up the scraps to me. I don’t think Silva will say anything negative. He will wait and see. If the club do not deliver, he will simply no renew his contract at the end of next season.
