Fulham winger Lemar Gordon has turned down a new deal with the Whites and joined League One Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee.
The nineteen year-old winger, originally from Ealing like his fellow former Fulham academy graduate and new O’s team-mate Ollie O’Neill, had starred for the Whites’ under-18 and under-21 sides. Gordon was offered a new deal by the Premier League club but opted to join last year’s beaten play-off finalists to play regular first-team football – bringing to an end his nine-year spell at Motspur Park.
Gordon, who has put pen to paper on a two-year contract containing a clause for a further year’s extension, told Orient’s official website:
“I have had a great footballing education at Fulham, and I believe now is the right time to start my next chapter and kickstart my senior career. I’m really determined to make that transition into playing regular men’s football and I am taking inspiration from people like Ollie O’Neill, who I know well from our time at Fulham together.”
Orient’s head coach, Richie Wellens, was delighted to welcome his twelfth summer signing.
“As a coach, it is refreshing to see a player turn down a Premier League contract to sign for a club in League One. That instantly tells you a lot about his character; it means he is hungry to do well.
“Lemar has good technical skills and he is someone we will put a lot of work into. We believe he has the potential to be a very good player for this club in the future.”
