Luckless Devan Tanton – whose last loan to Chesterfield was cancelled before Christmas due to injuries – has been ruled out for eight weeks after going off during his first appearance back at the Spireites earlier this month.
The 21 year-old Colombian international is already heading back to Motspur Park after rolling his ankle in the first half of a friendly against Alfreton Town. Tanton, an attacking right-back in the mold of Kenny Tete, has already suffered horribly with injuries and assistant manager Danny Webb cautioned that the eight-week estimate, delivered after scans showed a serious problem, is a minimum.
He told BBC Sheffield:
He is not great, it’s probably going to be eight weeks out, minimum. The injury is a blow, it’s disappointing for him and us, but for him because he had a couple last year as well. “Hopefully he will go back down to Fulham, get some treatment and come back up a bit more robust and won’t have any more bad luck with injuries.”
Poor lad can’t catch a break.
Either we’re recruiting a lot of injury prone youngsters or Chesterfield’s fitness/training team isn’t all that.
Tanton and Araújo last season, and Devan again and Dibley-Dias this season.
I don’t think that it’s the players. Perhaps we need to look to see if the training regime there is leading to these injuries.
