Fulham right back Devan Tanton has rejoined Chesterfield on loan this afternoon.
The Colombian international made eleven appearances for the Spireites during an encouraging loan spell last season before a succession of injuries saw the deal cut short in January. The 21 year-old has signed on for another season with Paul Cook’s men in order to gain more experience of first-team football.
Tanton, who is Chesterfield’s seventh summer signing, could feature in tonight’s pre-season friendly against Burton Albion. He will compete with former Fulham youngster Ryheem Sheckleford and Vontae Daley-Campbell for the first team right back berth. The talented defender, who won the Johnny Haynes Trophy two seasons ago after a series of impressive performances for Fulham’s under-21 side, follows in the footsteps of midfielder Matt Dibley Dias, who completed his own loan move to Chesterfield earlier this week.
Tanton told Chesterfield’s official website this afternoon:
“It feels amazing, I’m really happy to be back. My last loan was cut a bit short and I struggled a bit on a physical level, so it’s good to get in early to do the pre-season I wasn’t able to do last year. The gaffer was telling me that the club were interested in taking me back and that we had some unfinished business, which I completely agreed with. I left Chesterfield feeling bittersweet, wanting to give a lot more.”
